An interesting observation on the way we talk about sex

Before reading this, I was a little confused as to what "The Sex Myth" refers too, and after reading I feel like I know why. Rachel hills does a wonderful job explaining the Sex Myth and it's many contradicting layers of socially deemed acceptable and unacceptable behavior. I definitely learned somethings, one of the lessons I took away as most important is that however you do "it"--often or not, kinky or vanilla--don't overthink it, everyone has the same worries about it that you do.
Although I sometimes found the book a bit repetitive, I think it is well worth the read for anyone who ever worried about their sex-life. No, it won't take away your anxiety, but you can take heart when reading the variety of interviews that no one's sex-life is perfect. It's a quick read and very informative (you'd be surprised by the amount of research done on the subject of sex considering how little it's talked about!) and definitely worth the time.

This book is my favorite kind of book, intellectually challenging while also attention grabbing and accessible. Basically, even if you don't know you're smart now, you will walk away feeling smart as hell. Definitely something to discuss at dinner parties, and even bars.

My favorite thing about this book is the author's use of personal stories and experiences, both her own and those she interviewed for this work. Their stories make you feel more human, increasingly "normal" and connected to the world, and intrigued by others all at once.

I would highly recommend this book for young adults and full grown adults alike. Anyone interested in sex, thinking about having sex, concerned about their sex life, studying sex, or just plain sexual ... this book is for you.

I always have my eye out for authors who are interested in bringing together the scientific and the spiritual. If we assume (as I do) that there is reality to the existence of spiritual realms, beings, and principles, and that there is validity to the process of scientific inquiry, then it's obvious that the two must eventually meet. The drawback for this book is it clearly explains almost every possible complication. With the monthly format it is a lot to read at a time. The list of complications and possible symptoms each moth can be very daunting. Yet with all of that the book is also a great resource. It gives you many things to consider that you may never have thought of. It is much more comprehensive than many other pregnancy books. It has some nice charts in the back to help you keep track of weight, size and other notes for the Doctor's or Midwives. It also has a section for coping with pregnancy loss and also preparing for the next child. A good resource for any couple expecting a child. I just read this book cover to cover. No, seriously. And man, am I glad I was not pregnant at the time.

This is far from the first pregnancy/childbirth/parenting book I've ever read. I'm a health and research nut, and a librarian, so I do a lot of research and reading before I do anything. I try to consult a variety of sources from different viewpoints. Since this is the #1 most-recommended pregnancy book, I figured I might as well read this one too and see what all the fuss is about. I have yet to figure it out.

1) The main issue I have with this book is the clear lack of research that went into it. There are absolutely ZERO references in the entire book (and it is a beast of a book). The author's credentials also seem to be limited to a) she's a mom, and b) she is the author of this book. Yet she spouts "knowledge" and information like it's gospel. The forward is written by an esteemed OB/GYN, and I can see why he endorses the book, which I...
Not the best pregnancy guide
This was "THE BOOK" everyone told me to get when I got pregnant for the first time. So, of course, I ran out and bought it the moment my pregnancy test was positive! But, honestly, I didn't think it was that helpful.
The second chapter is titled "Now that you are Pregnant" and most of that chapter deals with "what you may be concerned about" which could also be titled "everything that could possibly go horribly wrong with your pregnancy" and it scared me half to death. I think it increased the amount of worrying I was doing exponentially [which couldn't have been a good thing!].
I also thought the diet portion was pretty ridiculous. I agree that we need to eat very healthily, especially during pregnancy. I eat very well and I ate especially well when pregnant. However, no human being I've ever met could [or would] stick to this diet plan. It was so strict as to be useless, in my opinion. I think people do much better with a...

Every teen and parent should own one

This is the best book on being a teenager that I have ever read! And this should mean a lot to you coming from a teen (I'm a 15 year old male). It's different from other books in that it encourages teens to make their own decisions in life. It doesn't come out and say, "No! Sex is bad! You will rot in hell if you have sex before you are married!" Instead, it gives equal reasons of why to have sex and why not to and then describes all the means of birth control. But it doesn't just deal with sex, it also touches on emotions that you might have through adolecence, masturbation, what you can do if you do become pregnent, and even drugs.

Terrific for your teenager

I bought this for my 15 year old son for reference and for his information.

His father won't talk to him about sex and he is too embarrassed to talk with me. In fact, I had to leave it in his room and he swore he wouldn't look at it. That he had learned everything he needed to know in 1 week of sex ed at school (!)

2 weeks later he thanked me for buying it. Still trying to keep the lines of communication open but at least now I know he is armed with knowledge.

An Excellent Read for ANYONE age 10 thru 100

Review :
Useful but not awesome

First of all, I would have liked this book a lot more if not for the cutesy writing (using a lot of rhymes, like "spirits flagging, body sagging" or whatever) and overuse of cliches. Second, and maybe this is just because I've spent my entire life coping with ridiculous levels of stress, there was not a lot in this book that I didn't already know. I was also irritated by some of the oddly - given the author is female - sexist or patriarchal ideas expressed.

The very end of the book, however, had some useful strategies I haven't yet tried, so I'll be working with those. I'm glad I paid less than $2 for this book, though, because it definitely wasn't worth more than that for me.

All of the rhetoric, pro and con, about this book may stimulate the intellect; however, the ultimate question to ask about new ideas is `How well do they work". These Four Agreements work. This is precisely why an open mind is so important for spiritual growth. With an open mind one can experiment with new ideas instead of sitting around debating the merits of the ideas.

If you doubt the validity of what this author says, I would invite you to call up any one of your friends and see if they can carry on a conversation for 10 minutes without engaging in character assignation. The author says they can't, and I discovered he was right.

Glad someone wrote a book about it

Nice someone wrote a book on sexuality for therapists. As a therapist I deal with the subject a lot and didn't find much new, but would be a good read for new therapists. State boards can invoke a fear of delving into sexuality yet its often a core issue for many clients.

I LOVED the book Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work. Unfortunately, this book is simply a remake of that one. Many of the stories are identical, and not much of the information is new. There are a couple chapters related specifically to having a baby, but you could read them quickly at the library without purchasing the book. If you haven't read the other book, this book would be great -- just don't buy both!!

Even better than the workshop!

My husband and I attended the Bringing Baby Home workshop, developed from this book, and I enjoy the text perhaps even more. Gottman's discussion about the origin of the concept of "spoiling" was fascinating and revealing about our culture and the historical influence behind some prevalent parenting theories. Gottman provides couples the tools, information, and the inpiration to stay bonded to each other and to become bonded to their babies. I found this book valuable and a wife, a pediatric nurse, and a new mother.

I am a certified labor doula and I bought this book so I could help my doula clients. I didn't realize how helpful it would be to me as well. Who knew Montana could be so fun?

I bought this set for one reason: Kiska. And like all Malamutes, he doesn't disappoint! The author paints Kiska as a true representative of the breed, resisting the temptation to turn a fictional Malamute into a crime-solving, sheep-herding, do-it-all super-dog. Instead, Kiska is an irresistible lovable oaf, displaying the same penchant for (usually) mild mischief that makes all Malamute aficionados feel that they really are super-dogs, no matter what anybody else might think.

Aside from Kiska, the books are all-around delightful. Lucy Mathews is an interesting, likeable heroine whose clever narrative draws you into both the mundane and the bizarre of her every-day life. The supporting characters, just like in real life, vary in how likeable they are, but are all well developed and believable. I'm looking forward to more Dusty Deals mysteries!

Helena, Montana sounds like a fun place.

Lucy, an antiques store owner and part time reporter, seems to stumble over a lot of dead bodies, literally. Lucy avoids conflict and confrontation like the plaque which is not a great trait for a so-called reporter confronting intimidating cops. Kiska, her Malamute, oft mistaken for a Husky, is a Bon companion. With auctions, rodeos, rodeo queens, sheep herding and vegan protestors running amuck things get interesting fast. Lots of fun situations for Lucy, Kiska and Pauline, the goose. A funny mystery series with laughs, twists and romance.

Fun to read and hard to put down

I'm about halfway through book 3 now, and I love this girl! It's just a fun book to read. I have to add that I like the fact that there's very little profanity and I haven't seen a sex scene yet. If this was a movie, it'd be family friendly. Good job Rae Davies for still writing good, clean, fun, entertaining books!!! Montana, cowboys, and dogs are a plus too.

The book is a PDF file...we downloaded it to our computer. It is 942 pages total...50 different books in 1. At the end of all the stories is 25 drawings that can be printed & colored. The illustrations are done really well. Most of these books are available as audio & links are provided. 50 Books In 1 How Can You Beat That?

This was a great idea! We have a bunch of different Minecraft books at our house and the option to have them all in one book is great! My daughter loves the stories and really likes that the book had pages she could color! These stories seem like they have more depth to them compared to other Minecraft book which I like. There are a lot of different types of stories in the book as well so you are not constantly reading about very similar plots. I liked that there was an option to have the books in audio format, I did not try it out to see what it was like but it was a nice option. I had this book in a digital format but I think we may buy the paperback copy in the near future because it is easier for my daughter to read and she really liked the stories! *I Received this book for free in exchange for an honest review.

So Many Great Stories!!!

Several short stories about different Minecraft characters. I read them to my sons(ages 9, 12 and 15) and they really enjoy them. There are so many different stories and definitely a great reading option for those children interested in Minecraft. It has also motivated my youngest son into reading more than usual because it's Minecraft!

Just what the doctor ordered

I've had a rough year so far, this book was just what the Doctor ordered (literally ;-) ). "Is this it?" was a question I asked myself often. I felt stuck and didn't know what to do. I've already tried a couple of the techniques described in this book and I already feel more in control of my own life. What I like about Geert's book is the simplicity. He makes difficult concepts easy to understand so I can actually apply and benefit from them. I've gotten an ton of AHA moments now. The book taught me more than the last 3 years of 'talk therapy' with my therapist have, at a fraction of the cost.

Eye-opener

What an eye-opener! I loved the chapter about the games our own mind plays on us. This was a huge insight for me and it has helped me react in a different way to the many obstacles I face every day. I've only just finished the book, but I was able to stand up for myself at work in a way I never did before. My boss even called me into his office to compliment me on my new attitude. Great book!

Martin Suter is my favorite writer of thrillers in the German language. He is a Swiss living abroad (why is it that so many of my favorite writers are expatriates like myself? Nabokov, Sebald, Doeblin, O'Brian, and quite a few more... ). He has a sideline in his publishing career: he writes splendid little satires on business life and the subculture of the 'Schickeria', as we call the yuppies and nouveaux riches in German. His main location is Zurich, which has its fair share of bankers, art dealers, other dealers, confidence men, etc. Actually his best novel is his latest, set in the art market scene in Zurich, but that one is not out in English yet.
The Deal with the Devil is a little burdened by the fact that some of its narrative elements are a little unconventional. Actually I think these parts are very good, but they challenge belief and are not straightforward prose.

an ideal travel read, as is the dark thriller `Deal with the devil' written by Martin Suter, a swiss writer which has been translated into English. My first read of a translated thriller, the story works well, with its drawing on deep and dark elements in nature to reflect the dark aspect of the legend that surrounds the village where the female lead works. A romantic novel that starts at a slow pace and has a disturbing thread running throughout the story-that the main lead can smell emotions and see sounds, a leftover disorder from a drug trip. Good page turner while travelling.

My friends had said that I wouldn't be let down, and I wasn't.
