First, the bad news: your teenage years are some of the most stressful of your life. Up to 70 percent of teens say they're stressed out, and with pressure about grades at school, parents who just don't seem to get it, and friends who drive you crazy, it's no wonder. Here's the good news! If you learn a few strategies for getting stress under control now, you'll have the skills you need to deal with problems and difficult feelings that life sends your way in high school and beyond.

The Stress Reduction Workbook for Teens is a collection of thirty-seven simple workbook activities that will teach you to reduce your worries using a technique called mindfulness. Mindfulness is a way to be aware of your thoughts and feelings in the present moment. You can use mindfulness when you start to feel as though things are spinning out of control, so you can stop worrying about what might happen and focus instead on what's happening now. Ready to get started? Open this workbook and try out the first activity. Soon, you'll be well on your way to developing resilience and a new kind of strength.

If you’re like many people, you find it easy to look at your negative qualities or feel there is no way to fix your problems or stress. This book is about building on the resources, skills, and positive qualities that you might not even realize you have. It is a way to move from “I'm powerless” thinking to “I can do it!” thinking.

Hundreds of teens in mindfulness-based stress reduction classes have used activities like the ones in this book, and here is what some of them have said:

"I have learned to let things go and move on from bad experiences."

"I felt that the coping skills learned are easy enough and effective enough to be used when I need. I now feel at the very least that I have the ability to reduce my stress."

"I learned new and different ways to stay relaxed and how to deal with stress and now I don’t worry much."

If they can do it, so can you!

Review :
Professor endorses book
I am a professor at University of California, Davis. For the last 10 years I have been impressed with the Stress Reduction training using Mindfulness. First developed my Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn at University of Massachusetts, the training has proven effective at reducing the stress levels of thousands of people around the world. Many health plans now have added a Stress Reduction course because of its proven effects at enhancing health and well-being. Now Gina Biegel has tailored this training to fit the massive stresses that teenagers face today. The book has come out of her own work with teens, and is backed up by her research in scientific journals. I highly recommend this book to every teenager and parent. I wish I had read it when I was a teen!

Stress Reduction Workbook for Everyone
This is a really great workbook for everyone, and especially teens because the language, activities and insights feel open and real. As a teacher, I can imagine my students benefiting deeply from these stress reduction techniques, and from the self-reflection opportunities. Truly it reaches across age groups, I'm finding it a very helpful practice for myself. Highly recommended.

Excellent Mindfulness Resource
As a mindfulness-based psychotherapist working with adolescents and their families, I find this workbook to be an invaluable tool for teaching mindfulness to my clients. This workbook is useful in conjunction with a structured MBSR class, and can also be used alone. It encourages healthy dialogue and self-reflection and I recommend it highly for anyone working with the adolescent population.

Do you often find yourself in trouble because of anger? Do you react to situations and later regret how you behaved? Does your anger cause problems with other people? Are you tired of letting anger control you?

Between family life, friends, and the pressures of school, there's no doubt that it's stressful being a teenager. And while anger is a natural human emotion, different people handle it differently. Some hold in their anger and let it build, some lash out with hurtful words, some resort to fighting, and some just explode. If you've noticed yourself beginning to take out your frustrations on the people you love most—your parents, brothers or sisters, and friends—it may be time to make a change.

The Anger Workbook for Teens includes thirty-seven exercises designed to show you effective skills to help you deal with feelings of rage without losing it. By completing just one ten-minute worksheet a day, you'll find out what's triggering your anger, look at the ways you react, and learn skills and techniques for getting your anger under control. You'll develop a personal anger profile and learn to notice the physical symptoms you feel when you become enraged, then find out how to calm those feelings and respond more sensitively to others. Once you fully understand your anger, you'll be better prepared to deal with your feelings in the moment and never lose your cool.

The activities in this workbook will help you notice things that make you angry, handle frustrating situations without getting angry, and effectively communicate your feelings. Most of all, these activities can help you learn to change how you respond to anger. Change is not easy, but with the right frame of mind and set of skills, you can do it. This book is designed to help you understand how both your mind and body respond to anger, how you can handle this anger constructively, and relaxation techniques for dealing with anger in a healthy way, so that you can not only control your anger, but your life as a whole.

Maybe pre-teens.
I am a mental health counselor working with adolescents aged 13-18. After looking through these books (anger and anxiety by the same author), I don't think it's fair to market this to teens. My clients were offended by the youthfulness of the exercises and would not even humor me to engage in the worksheets. As a clinician I can look at the workbooks and see that they do have good stuff in them that is worth discussion, but the actual worksheets/workbook are more appropriate for pre-teens 10-12ish. Just my opinion though, it's possible it's just my particular population/region.

excellent resource for anger management issues!
In my work as a public high school counselor, I have found this timely workbook on Anger Management for Teens to be enormously helpful. The 'anger questionnaire' and guidelines on 'scheduling times' to work on particular aspects of anger have been particularly useful. I have already recommended this workbook to several colleagues and family members. If you or someone you know struggles with teen anger (or even adult anger), this workbook can definitely help you out.

Great Workbook For Angry Teens
I highly recommend this resource! The exercises in this workbook promote self-reflection as well as help teens develop better communication skills. As a licensed school counselor and professional counselor, I've reached for this workbook time and time again. Furthermore, as a supervisor I've recommended this workbook to my supervisees as a "must have" for their library. Great workbook! One of the best!

"It seems like everyone else has the script. Everyone else knows what's happening and I look around and say, Duh."

Of course, the truth is that no one has the script because there is no script to follow. Chances are you'd find that almost everyone else has questions and worries a lot like yours, if you could get them to admit it. This brand-new, completely updated and revised edition of Changing Bodies, Changing Lives is full of honest, accurate, nonjudgmental information on everything teenagers need to know about today.

Am I the only one who

can't get up the nerve to ask someone out?
got my period so early?
doesn't even know the right way to kiss?
feels pressured to use drugs?
still hasn't hit puberty yet?
wants to avoid the gang scene?
worries when my mom doesn't come home at night?
is scared that I might have AIDS?
can't decide what form of birth control to use?
has no idea how to tell my friends I'm gay?
goes on eating binges?
has never had an orgasm?
is shut out of the popular crowd?

Changing Bodies, Changing Lives has helped hundreds of thousands of teenagers make informed decisions about their lives, from questions about sex, love, friendship, and how your body works to dealing with problems at school and home and figuring out who you are. It's packed with illustrations, checklists, and resources for the answers you really need. Best of all, it's filled with the voices, poems, and cartoons from hundreds of other teenagers, who tell you what makes them feel worried, angry, confused, sexy, happy, and, yes, even excited and hopeful about their lives. Review :
Every teen and parent should own one
This is the best book on being a teenager that I have ever read! And this should mean a lot to you coming from a teen (I'm a 15 year old male). It's different from other books in that it encourages teens to make their own decisions in life. It doesn't come out and say, "No! Sex is bad! You will rot in hell if you have sex before you are married!" Instead, it gives equal reasons of why to have sex and why not to and then describes all the means of birth control. But it doesn't just deal with sex, it also touches on emotions that you might have through adolecence, masturbation, what you can do if you do become pregnent, and even drugs.

Terrific for your teenager
I bought this for my 15 year old son for reference and for his information.

His father won't talk to him about sex and he is too embarrassed to talk with me. In fact, I had to leave it in his room and he swore he wouldn't look at it. That he had learned everything he needed to know in 1 week of sex ed at school (!)

2 weeks later he thanked me for buying it. Still trying to keep the lines of communication open but at least now I know he is armed with knowledge.

An Excellent Read for ANYONE age 10 thru 100
Changing Bodies, Changing Lives is a wonderfully open-minded book filled with diagrams, interviews, comics, and poems which focus on puberty, sexuality, relationships, family, and life in general presented in an appealing manner. Pre-teens will benefit from being able to prepare themselves for the important changes that await them. Teens will enjoy reading about other kids with the same concerns and worries. Parents who read this book will be better equipped to answer the inevitable "QUESTION". Ruth Bell and the Teen Book Project present a plethora of valuable information in an easy to understand format. Some may be put off by the explicit descriptions, but keep in mind that these scenarios are taken from real interviews with teens. The guide covers emotional and physical changes which accompany puberty as well as such important matters as gynecological exams, marriage, rape, sexually transmitted diseases, and self-esteem. If there is any one book that...

Review :
Bullying help for everyone!
This is a must read/must use resource to help children stand up against bullying! As a school counselor I have used this book working with middle school students and the students love it! I love that it is current and uses real life situations that children encounter in different environments. The sections are short and simple and they help empower students to advocate for themselves.

Bullying workbook
This book had several ideas and activities that corresponded with realistic situations surrounding bullying. I would strongly recommend this to mental health professionals and guidance counselors if they have the time.

Helpful, but teens have to be forced by parents ...
Helpful, but teens have to be forced by parents to do the work, and my experience has been that parents just want to drop there kid off to see me one or twice a month and fix them and don't do their part with their teen.
