Once I had read the very enlightening material, I was ready to try it out on my husband, who had been away while I was learning. Look at the cover of this book -- and while I know they tell you not to do this, you'll get a pretty good sense of what's inside. The people on the cover are not in their 40s, they're closer to 70 and they still project their joie de vivre and the ease and happiness of their physical intimacy. They obviously know how to enjoy life and each other. You look at the picture and you say, "Hey, I want that." For anybody over 50 who is frustrated by teaser magazine articles that promise to explain all and then fail to deliver any actual information, this book is a compact treasure trove of reassurance. As we extend our useful lives into 8 and 9 decades, surely it's time to demystify the secrets of keeping our sex organs as happily engaged as our hearts and minds.

Suddenly single in my 50's.....I went back to reading Cosmopoliton magazine thinking older men were like younger men in the sex department. Wrong.....this book help set things straight and understand the changes with sex as we grow older.

Sex After 50? or 60?
I generally enjoyed the read. I thought that it would be better as a "Guide to Better Sex after 60," because today's 50-year-old is yesterday's 40-year-old. Dr. Ruth may be a little out of touch with the baby boomer generation--sexually. It's a little bit geriatric. Even the font was larger, which made it easier to read, was very perceptive, but who me?

Consider using it as an encyclopedia of information, everything included, but clearly not everything is pertinent to everyone. It has an amazing table of contents. Read it once and highlight sections and issues that you think are important to you. Give it to your spouse, partner or significant other to read and have them do the same, but highlight issues with different color highlighters, compare notes and see how your relationship has evolved. If you end up with a rainbow of colors, then you should go to counseling fast!

I think this is an amazing resource to really get people thinking about themselves as sexual beings. It encompasses a wide range of sexual options and also gives good information about sex-related topics (such as communication). I especially appreciate that this book isn't about a specific disability or illness, and it recognizes the ways in which disabilities can be enabling during sex as well. I definatly reccomend this book to people with disabilities and without disabilities-- I guarentee you'll learn something new.

Nothing New

This is the third book with almost the same title. "The Strap-on Book" and "The Ultimate Guide to Strap-on Sex" covered this subject adequately long ago and not much has changed.

The real problem with these narrow-focus books is that they are little more than magazine articles plumped up with worthless filler so they can be sold over and over. These 160 pages could be reduced to a single chapter in another book . . . But wait, they already have.

For the best $$$ deal, buy "Anal Sex for Women" or "Anal Sex for Couples." The former has better pictures and the latter has more details with less fluff. Plus you get all the extras in a better package.

I bought this book because I was interested in learning more about the subject. The sex book genre is full of books that have an interesting subject, but appear to be written by 5th graders, and then printed without being edited. In addition, the publishing quality is frequently fairly low, which makes for a bad reading experience. This book, however, was a pleasant surprise. It's well-written, interesting, informative, and published in a professional manner. I recommend it to anyone looking to learn more about pegging.

My favorite BF book so far!
I ordered this book recently, it arrived yesterday, and I have spent much of today reading different sections of it. I want to start by saying that this is my favorite BF/EA book ever! I own and have read many books on Taoism, particularly translations by Thomas Cleary and books by Daniel Reid. I've read a number of other books on Taoist subjects, including many by Bruce Frantzis and his Energy Arts company. I've gleaned things from every BF book I've ever read, but my largest critique or issue with them has always been that they tend to be very technique-heavy and theory-light. Depending who you are and what your preferences may be, that can be either a good thing or a bad thing. I've always viewed BF as being farthest on the "practical doing" side of the continuum, and Dr. Yang Jwing-Ming as being the furthest on the "theory" side, though obviously both men can do both.

This book is quite sizable, coming in at around 400 pages or so total. It has a number of...
The real thing

When I purchased this book I had only heard of Bruce Frantzis on the internet. I was reticent to make the purchase because of all the "Experts" ready and willing to take someone's money and offer almost nothing in return. It seems that in the internet marketing world, there is no end of people offering dubious wisdom for financial gain. Few of them have much honor beyond their desire to cash in the the wealth of anonymous marketing. Bruce Frantzis, I am pleased to report, is the real thing.
This book, encyclopedic in length and content is a rare find. It offers the Taoist theory upon which all the exercises, both mental and physical are based. Having been a student of Tai Chi Chuan for several years, I was most excited to be reminded of what I used to know and instructed in theories and techniques I had never heard of before.
In a word, after reading some of the 400 plus pages of this tome, I would love to study personally with Mr. Frantzis.

Extremely comprehensive book on taoism and sex
This book is a joy to read and is also packed with in depth content at over 400 pages. The amount of information that the author includes is outstanding. Having himself studied real taoism for decades, the act of bringing this knowledge to the West is a real treasure.
The information in the book is very organised and contains a lot of information that is universally useful to all kinds of practice and taoism as whole. The sex aspect of taoism is not just some thing that is completely separate from everything else but rather because the practices are based on taoism itself just learning about the sex aspect can enhance your overall understanding of taoist practices and theory, which the author goes into in depth.
The book's practices and the overall context of everything ties back to taoism and all its practices as everything one does in whatever solo practices of qigong and meditation that they do can be integrated and used in sexual qigong or sexual meditation.

this book is one of the best i`ve ever read, and i read my share. but then i deeply respect and admire david deida, and have experienced time after time that even reading his works can open ones heart up and give taste of the deeper realm.

this book has scenes that is quite interesting, to say the least - and it is a great test to "stay open, as love" or suffer from the hearts contraction, fear and aversion.

Though his own experiences with an intensely charismatic teacher, the book is a sequence of extraordinary anecdotes that inspire and entertain as well as teach. While I get a lot out of his other books, especially Finding God through Sex, this is a great companion book.

Nothing but a drunken orgy
I read David Dieda's book "Intimate Communion" and found it to be insightful and transformative - I believe in and experience deep love and sharing he conveys - he hits home on so many points about men and women. I was initially intruiged by the story-like essence of Wild Nights, but I am really disgusted by this book and perceive the "teacher", Mykonos, to be little more than a drunk sex addict who manipulates people at their deepest levels - through sex and the emotions, fulfillment and addictive rush of "love" that one can feel in sex. Although this is supposedly a work of fiction, its focus is on polygamous, sexually loose experiences.

I personally feel let down by this book - this is not about God and love, it is about delusion and the use of group-sex to artificially break down internal barriers - barriers that can be broken down in a truly loving and trusting relationship. Kind of eye opening

Unfortunately, my dating history is pretty... friendzone-centric, so the premise of the book really spoke to me. And I think it delivered for the most part, as it really allowed me to understood why I fall into the friendzone so much. He has 20 "chemistry principles", zero of which I did in the past.

I also really liked that the author really related to normal guys and didn't go all pickup artist on me. His examples to create chemistry were really realistic for even someone like me to do.

It didn't really have much helpful advice, instead articles geared toward upping a womans self-esteem so that she can do these things. There was a lot of interesting information in it, though, and I'll definitely look back at it for references on things.

Hurray to the author of this book! Some things in life don't change and how babies get made is one of those things. I didn't want explicit technical pictures. This book provides a platform for the embarrassed parent. The pictures are simple cutouts that explain the process of reproduction. The book begins with flowers and pollination and progresses steadily towards human fertilization. No shocks, no surprises, just simple facts clearly stated. Excellent book. Children are still children and shocking them with a book that they are not prepared to look at is not the answer. This book was a mild approach to a tense subject and I've already recommended it to friends.

Still the best after 36 years

I recommend this book to everyone. First issued in 1968 when I was 6 years old, I still remember being impressed, even at that age, by the logical progression of this book. It explains in the most respectful, lucid way where babies come from. I passed this book on to my older sister when she had kids and they hung on to it and passed it down to me when my kids were learning to read. I just left it in the bookcase and they all picked it up when they were ready for it. For anyone mystified about how and where to begin explaining this subject, here is everything you need. This book is in no way dated and should still be at the top of every list of books on this subject.

Mixed Review

The Good Vibrations Guide to Better Sex must be taken in its context. While it does a fabulous job on philosophy and manages to appeal (and include!) everyone on the sexual spectrum, it is disappointingly light on technique. If you are of the more jaded persuasion and are fairly comfortable with your body and sexual appetites, this is not the book for you (there is not much to reccommend it in the way of new information). I was impressed to see that the sex toy section of the book was of notable length and expertise (but these are the folks who do it best) and to encounter the totally unapologetic enthusiasm for the kinkier aspects of the art of sex. It is a good guide for those starting out, but not of much use to the more experienced participant. (However helping out the good gals of Good Vibes is always a worthy cause!)

I really liked this book because it didn't make assumptions about my sexual orientation or what kinds of things I should like sexually. It just sort of presented a whole lot of options, and laid them out like a big feast, and then invited me to taste whatever I wanted. Odd and insightful
We're all different. We all crave sex (and ecstasy, which are two different things sometimes) and/or push away sex (and ecstasy) for various reasons. Barbara wants you to find out those reasons. I sometimes wondered as I was reading: are you talking about the same sex I have? And I came to the conclusion that in many ways Barbara Carellas ISN'T talking about the same sex as I have.

I entered my Master's degree program in Religious Studies in 1990 with the intention of writing my thesis on some component of sex and religion. For months I struggled with the ambiguity of my topic before choosing another topic; one considered more realistically manageable, as well as less controversial. I never lost interest in the subject matter, however. "Ecstasy is Necessary" is a non-regrettable reminder of my idle research and an inspiration for me to find a place in my writing for my lingering personal and academic curiosity for the way humans reconcile their sensual desires to their spiritual endeavors.

Get Me Embodied!
I read this book mostly because I think Barbara is awesome and also because I want to learn how to have better, more fulfilling sex and I identify as being in the relentless pursuit of my joy. This book was beyond anything I imagined it was going to be.

This book is an empowerment manual for embodiment. It is a road map to learn how to go into your body and get to know yourself on a physical, mental, emotional and spiritual level. I spend at least 6 hours a week diligently working on these connections for myself and there was a lot I learned about myself within the first seventy pages.

Although a newer sex book, it is already my favorite sex book to recommend (I work as a sex educator for adults). It's well written, easy to read, has great diagrams, fun quizzes at the start of every chapter and - best of all - the information is GREAT. It's right on, it's accurate and written by someone who totally knows what she is talking about.

A major frustration of mine is that a lot of sex books are written by random people who don't know what they're talking about but act like they do. These are the same people who wind up doing things that their partners find unpleasurable but they do them because they read it in a book or magazine (that was wrong!). FINALLY - a book written by an expert who is fun, smart, and clearly loves sex! Dr. Debby writes about sex the way it should be written about - like it's fun and something we can learn to find pleasurable, exciting and connecting with our partners.

This is the kind of book that you will read over and over...

This book was okay, but not really for women who are in tune with their bodies, and looking to spice up their love life. This seems to be more geared to those not comfortable with sex and their own bodies.

I highly recommend this book to any generation, but most particularly to MY generation, the Zooomer (the 50 plus) woman. We were raised with so little information about our own sexuality by our mothers that, for me personally, I did not have my sexual awakening until I was in my 50's. I was married for over 30 years and only a handful of times did I experience pleasure, but an orgasm? never! I thought something was wrong with me, very seriously wrong. I talked to an OBGYN who thankfully was from Europe and very open and she recommended reading material to me. I found that I was not as educated about my own body as I thought.
