I bought this on a whim after first discarding the flyer and then deciding to be open minded about the subject. I ordered from Amazon, received the book in a very short time and started reading immediately. Once I had read the very enlightening material, I was ready to try it out on my husband, who had been away while I was learning. Having been a physical therapist, the techniques were easy for me to learn, although I had never, ever done a massage on that area! My favorite BF book so far!
I ordered this book recently, it arrived yesterday, and I have spent much of today reading different sections of it. I want to start by saying that this is my favorite BF/EA book ever! I own and have read many books on Taoism, particularly translations by Thomas Cleary and books by Daniel Reid. I've read a number of other books on Taoist subjects, including many by Bruce Frantzis and his Energy Arts company. I've gleaned things from every BF book I've ever read, but my largest critique or issue with them has always been that they tend to be very technique-heavy and theory-light. Depending who you are and what your preferences may be, that can be either a good thing or a bad thing. I've always viewed BF as being farthest on the "practical doing" side of the continuum, and Dr. Yang Jwing-Ming as being the furthest on the "theory" side, though obviously both men can do both.

This book is quite sizable, coming in at around 400 pages or so total. It has a number of...
The real thing

When I purchased this book I had only heard of Bruce Frantzis on the internet. I was reticent to make the purchase because of all the "Experts" ready and willing to take someone's money and offer almost nothing in return. It seems that in the internet marketing world, there is no end of people offering dubious wisdom for financial gain. Few of them have much honor beyond their desire to cash in the the wealth of anonymous marketing. Bruce Frantzis, I am pleased to report, is the real thing.
This book, encyclopedic in length and content is a rare find. It offers the Taoist theory upon which all the exercises, both mental and physical are based. Having been a student of Tai Chi Chuan for several years, I was most excited to be reminded of what I used to know and instructed in theories and techniques I had never heard of before.
In a word, after reading some of the 400 plus pages of this tome, I would love to study personally with Mr. Frantzis.

This book is a joy to read and is also packed with in depth content at over 400 pages. The amount of information that the author includes is outstanding. Having himself studied real taoism for decades, the act of bringing this knowledge to the West is a real treasure.
The information in the book is very organised and contains a lot of information that is universally useful to all kinds of practice and taoism as whole. The sex aspect of taoism is not just some thing that is completely separate from everything else but rather because the practices are based on taoism itself just learning about the sex aspect can enhance your overall understanding of taoist practices and theory, which the author goes into in depth.
The book's practices and the overall context of everything ties back to taoism and all its practices as everything one does in whatever solo practices of qigong and meditation that they do can be integrated and used in sexual qigong or sexual meditation.

I read this book from cover to cover in a few days. It is well written in an easy to read conversational style. Dr. Corwin is a clinical psychologist who has written this book for the lay public but it would be helpful for clinicians as well. She is different than many writers on this topic in that she describes both the published academic research and clinical examples. She has made the research accessible to her audience with her easily understood descriptions of the findings. Her book makes many good points and covers relevant topics that contribute to sexual issues in couples including desire discrepancy,body image issues,sexual abuse issues, aging and hormones, fidelity and parenting. A terrific, thought-provoking read!

Sexual Intimacy for Women is a must-read book, whether you're just beginning to explore yourself sexually or whether you consider yourself more experienced. Dr. Corwin uses a combination of scientific evidence and clinical experience and examples to tackle some very difficult and private issues. Topics include body image, aging, fidelity issues, sexual abuse, lesbian parenthood, communication, and orgasm. Another beauty of the book is that the chapters pretty much stand on their own, so you can read them in any order you wish. At the end of every chapter is an area entitled "Your Turn," in which Dr. Corwin puts forth thought-provoking questions that the reader can work through. Her style of writing is so easy and fluid that it's like having a conversation with a very close friend!

I read this book a while back (8 months ago?) and have re-read bits here and there (I rarely re-read books). This deserves 5 stars, period, without a shadow of a doubt. Glenda Corwin has been a therapist for 20 years as of the writing of this book, and specifically focusing on lesbian couples for 10 years. Every single chapter includes one or more very interesting and helpful case studies from her own therapy work, combined with scientific studies / statistics - which is an excellent combination in itself. On top of that, she just has a very good understanding of what she is writing about, and this book is very well-articulated and well-organized.

The introduction starts the book off with the idea of "lesbian bed death," a term she only mentions once. The theme of the book is how to maintain sex in long-term relationships for female couples. Although a newer sex book, it is already my favorite sex book to recommend (I work as a sex educator for adults). It's well written, easy to read, has great diagrams, fun quizzes at the start of every chapter and - best of all - the information is GREAT. It's right on, it's accurate and written by someone who totally knows what she is talking about.

A major frustration of mine is that a lot of sex books are written by random people who don't know what they're talking about but act like they do. These are the same people who wind up doing things that their partners find unpleasurable but they do them because they read it in a book or magazine (that was wrong!). FINALLY - a book written by an expert who is fun, smart, and clearly loves sex! Dr. Debby writes about sex the way it should be written about - like it's fun and something we can learn to find pleasurable, exciting and connecting with our partners.

When You're Ready

This is a phenomenal book, as is Staci Haines' other book The Survivor's Guide to Sex. It has an extensive list of resources at the end. The author speaks with a clear, engaging voice. But you have to be ready for it, as the author is very clear and direct about the subject matter. I have been consciously healing the wounds of child sexual abuse for over 17 years - in the beginning with lots of therapy, both group and individual, and in recent years, through journaling, prayer, yoga. Healing comes in layers. Currently I am celibate because I am too darn afraid. Staci Haines's book gives me a roadmap for what to expect when I finally am able to put myself out there. She assumes the reader is familiar with dissociation, numbing, leaving the body, PTSD reactions, etc., etc. She just picks up from there, and talks about having sex that feels good and safe, even though you have these issues.

A Must Read for Partners of Survivors
This is a hard hitting and revealing description of what has occured to the survivor. Many snipett descriptions are revolting for the partners to read. For any partner of a survivor this will help you gain a insight in helping understand just how vile perps are and what the survivor lives with on a daily. Better than I expected

I purchased this book about 6 months after I'd checked out the older version from the Library of the survivors' group that I attend. I found the overall tone of the book to be hopeful, positive and encouraging, but also challenging. The author's premise is that it's not only possible to have a healthy sexual self after surviving sexual abuse, it can be the most dynamic part of a survivor's healing practice. The author also cautions that it won't be easy, and that it takes courage and self-love to take on this work. I particularly liked the chapters on Dissociation and Intimacy.

Finally a deeper perspective
After having tried different kinds of books and therapy which mainly is focusing on the technical aspects of sex with little success or progress, I feel that this book really goes behind the technical and offers a more complete explanation as to why some people have a difficult relationship with sex.

In comparison to other books that seem to tell you that if you have difficulty with sex you must have been sexually abused as a child, this book offers a more complete analysis and makes you think of little things and details which along the way might have caused you to find sex difficult, but in an uplifting manner, saying that it is ok and that you can solve it. It also tells you that you are not the only one suffering from this fear of intimacy and that it is ok and you can do something about it.

In my opinion it is a very well written book and is worth reading for a lot of people in order to get a greater understanding of themselves and the world around them,...
Empathetic and brave

This book has been very useful to me. It's written with a good deal of compassion and insight, and even though I think the authors oversimplify some issues, they manage to get near the heart of what makes sex so difficult for many people. The recommended activities are generally weak and none too useful, but that's true of most self-help books. Even the good ones.

Not quite what I was expecting.
I purchased this book in hopes that it would help a friend of mine through her troubles, as she was abused in childhood and as a result she's unable to have a physical relationship with anyone.

This book seemed nice, but upon flipping through it I realized that it assumes that the reader is a man or woman in a relationship that is already having sex & doesn't find joy in it. That doesn't help my best friend, since she's NOT in a relationship with anyone and would feel left out by the book. The book wouldn't be any help for her, and ended up being a waste of my money. Why would I give her a book that isn't going to help her? Still, it did make some nice points but again... the fact that the writers are assuming that they are speaking to married or partnered men/women really alienates a large chunk of people.

An exceptionally clear and insightful book. The author seems to have a gift for cutting right to the heart of every relationship issue, especially in the context of each individual's spiritual growth. This book, more than any other, has informed my current perspective on relationships, and has proven quite helpful in creating the context to discuss masculine/feminine issues between myself and my partner. We have been using Deida's suggestions with great success for some years now, and our relationship has blossomed in ways we never thought possible, due to our increasing faith in honesty and full expression of each of our gifts. In one of the exercises, I actually found tears rolling down my cheeks as I released a lot of emotional pain. This book describes Deida's view of masculine/feminine polarity, sexual energy, sexual desire, and more. And Deida being Deida, it is about sex and spirituality and growth. The book gives the sense that we are being offered an ancient way or yoga or art. We get the sense that Deida has learned this tantric-esque wisdom from various teachers, and now he is transmitting his knowledge to us. David is controversial, but then what innovator is not? He writes and teaches from the perspective of 20 years work with hatha yoga, pranayama, t'ai chi and Tantra. One of the things which I most like about his work is the constant emphasis on the dance of dualities, which has been a major focus of my own work for more than two decades. False dichotomies, such as good/bad, male/female, winner/loser, have, like other false beliefs, caused great sadness and frustration, and it is so important for people to know that there is another way.

Let's Skip the Witch Hunts
Just wanted to respond to these fear-arousing posts about David Deida being a "follower of a...demonically deluded cult leader". Curiously, these exact verbatim posts have been made to most of Deida's books listed on Amazon (I haven't checked them all). Seems like some kind of organized effort going on here to smear Deida.

I am white, 240lb Neanderthal looking 23 yr veteran of military Special Operations, a former Pro cage fighter and exist to say the least in a testosterone laden male work environment rampant with the negative views and stereotypes on womens' sexuality one might expect. I am not sure if I am alone in my views or others just play along out of fear of being ostracized for expressing their support of womens' empowerment. This book hits the nail right on the head and articulates the societal double standards and male fear of powerful women and their comfort and equal participation in sex and their sexual choices. The essays in this great book are compiled and analyzed by Jaclyn Friedman and Jessica Valenti and the book's structure reflects the authors' blogging experience, which makes for an incredibly helpful and original format. This book is beautifully constructed, extremely well-argued, and offers a lot of material to think about.

Susun Weed's newest book is a much-needed look at healing for Down There for women & men.

Sexual & reproductive health can be a shady part of taking care of ourselves - a lot of painful emotions to deal with, in addition to trying to get help from doctors. I love Susun Weed's work because she's so respectful to the body's processes of healing. Her approach starts out at the tiniest level of do nothing & gather information, and moves gradually toward more invasive measures if healing is still necessary. She addresses emotions, she speaks up for the organs in our bodies so we can get to know them better, and she offers hope - no matter what sort of challenge she's talking about in each chapter.

I highly recommend this book, especially if you feel frustrated with doctors, an issue that's not healing, or using pills for every solution.

The book gave me and my boyfriend a better understanding of his behavior. Why he couldn't stop the secret dating, and the internet e-mails and porn. Fantasizing about sexual situations, whether the grass was greener somewhere other than with the life he knew.

For me it was very painful to find about his affairs, for him it was something which brought him a lot of shame and misery because he saw how much it hurt me. We are still working through the pain and realizing that it takes a lot of work on an ongoing basis to stay free from the temptations which are so easily available the internet and have the power to destroy a person's life. I highly recommend this book I was able to understand the reason of his compulsive behavior and he understood that he was a sex addict that need it help.

If you

Glad someone wrote a book about it

Nice someone wrote a book on sexuality for therapists. As a therapist I deal with the subject a lot and didn't find much new, but would be a good read for new therapists. State boards can invoke a fear of delving into sexuality yet its often a core issue for many clients.
