Sensitive Material
I finished reading Deal With The Devil today and honestly, I am not overly thrilled with the story. Deal With The Devil is an interesting story about how young werewolf Luz Velez overcomes her tormented past and accepts the tall and dangerous vampire Jude Jacobson.

The story is written through the eyes of Luz and at times you tend to forget that she is supposed to be 27. Her character is very naive and innocent, though the later is not her fault. You learn throughout the story that the character of Luz was abused as a child. I found it difficult to read. I felt that the extent of her abuse was rather intense to have in a "romance" novel. I will give the author Evangeline Anderson credit and admit the issue of abuse was handled well in respect to not rushing the sexuaas relationship of the main characters, but the extent of the abuse did not make for light reading.

This one wasn't bad at all. Well written the sex scenes were very descriptive and not too long or too often like some books where it's sex every other paragraph and they take way to long. I do have to wonder if this author really likes oral sex though lol, I have read a few of her other books which have the same type scenario of the female has been traumatised and the male has his own secret or problem, the meet and .can't go all out with sex for whatever the reason is so they start slow and there's lots of oral sex before you ever get to the actual sex act itself.
Don't get me wrong though, their is a story here even if for this particular story it a not that involved, but still a good easy read. But it a not a five star book, not even close but that doesn't mean it was bad or anything. I read a lot and sometimes I want a fast easy romance with vampires and other supernatural creatures to give it that just a little bit different bite ( no pun intended) and who doesn't like a...

Luz Velez is a were that has never been able to shift. Because of a traumatic event in her childhood, Luz suffers from serious panic attacks that hold her back in every aspect of her life. A High Price To Pay For Money

In her tenth novel, Victoria Christopher Murray has penned an emotionally gripping story that has brought to life a cast of characters caught up in a tragedy as timeless and evocative as those of the Ancient Greeks or Shakespeare. Evia and Adam were a couple living the American Dream, until Adam lost his high paying corporate job. Now they find themselves living the American nightmare. There's more month than money and financial ruin is imminent, but there's a life raft - an offer of $5 Million Dollars if they'll.... They take the deal, but then their lives spin out of control. Murray convinces readers with a conviction of a skilled writer that you cannot, should not dance with the devil. I thought about this story long after I closed the book.

Ever dance with the devil in the pale moonlight...you shouldn't

Adam and Evia Langston are experiencing financial lows because of unemployment, greed, and lust. Evia's supervisor Shay offers her a silly million dollar deal. Evia and Adam accept the deal and pay, royally. This is an average novel - starts slow and heats up towards the end. It is not christian fiction. The way Evia and Adam are described when they have sex should have been omitted. It is lengthy and sometimes boring.
It's not the typical Victoria Murray Book. Not enough suspense and too much whining. I understand it is fiction but life imitates art. This book was imaginative like a cartoon. I give it an OKAY rating because the message I got from it ---if you dance with the devil, you should expect to get burnt. To me, this is a positive message that is very useful.

strong inspirational family drama

The idea of mates was belittled a lot.
I’m a giant fan of the 'Purgatory' series by Cynthia Eden, in fact, it’s probably my favorite series of hers. ‘Deal With The Devil’ is the fourth book in the series but each can be read as a standalone. Overall I’ve enjoyed them all. The first, ‘The Wolf Within’, was an okay read and opened up the series (this book is free), the two that followed, ‘Marked by the Vampire’ and ‘Charming the Beast’, stole my heart. I loved every part of them. As per this one, I’m not sure where I stand, I didn’t dislike it but I also didn’t love it.

Eric Pate is the director of the PARA unit, he makes all the rules and everyone follows his orders. He doesn’t let anyone too close because he hides who he really is: something that isn’t so human after all. Then Ella Lancaster crashes into his world and Eric’s legendary control starts to crack.

Lots of Action and Scorching Hot Scenes
One of my Dirty Girls is a huge Cynthia Eden fan so when an ARC came up, I decided to give it a try. I was a bit worried about not having read the first three books in the Purgatory Series, but I caught on just fine.

I loved Ella and as her story unfolded it just tugged at my heart strings. I am a huge fan of strong heroines and alpha heroes. Ella definitely fit in the tough as nails category but I wish we had gotten to see more of her kicking rearend and taking names and less of Ella getting beaten up, grabbed, kidnapped etc etc.

Eric on the other hand didn't even make it to my like category for a good part of the story. His cause was definitely worthy, but his win at all costs attitude was kind of off-putting. He eventually grew on me and I ended up liking him overall but he's not going to make my favorite book boyfriend list.

There was plenty of action and some scorching hot scenes that made this book worthy of my time. I still really liked the...

Martin Suter is my favorite writer of thrillers in the German language. He is a Swiss living abroad (why is it that so many of my favorite writers are expatriates like myself? Nabokov, Sebald, Doeblin, O'Brian, and quite a few more... ). He has a sideline in his publishing career: he writes splendid little satires on business life and the subculture of the 'Schickeria', as we call the yuppies and nouveaux riches in German. His main location is Zurich, which has its fair share of bankers, art dealers, other dealers, confidence men, etc. Actually his best novel is his latest, set in the art market scene in Zurich, but that one is not out in English yet.
The Deal with the Devil is a little burdened by the fact that some of its narrative elements are a little unconventional. Actually I think these parts are very good, but they challenge belief and are not straightforward prose.

an ideal travel read, as is the dark thriller `Deal with the devil' written by Martin Suter, a swiss writer which has been translated into English. My first read of a translated thriller, the story works well, with its drawing on deep and dark elements in nature to reflect the dark aspect of the legend that surrounds the village where the female lead works. A romantic novel that starts at a slow pace and has a disturbing thread running throughout the story-that the main lead can smell emotions and see sounds, a leftover disorder from a drug trip. Good page turner while travelling.

Few non-South Africans have heard of the "Arms Deal," but it is THE great political scandal of post-1994 democratic South Africa. The rotten story began with a decision by the new ANC government to procure super-expensive high-tech weapons. Not only were these weapons not needed for the defense of the nation, but the tenders were hijacked by crooks who paid bribes to ANC pols and fixers. Even the current President, Jacob Zuma, took money. Given the country's crying social needs, the revenue wasted on these weapons was a mockery of the ideals of the liberation struggle. Yet the scandal has never been properly investigated, and it continues to fester in South Africa's collective political consciousness, undermining confidence in democratic institutions and leaving the ANC fearful of future disclosures.

"The Devil in the Detail" is a detailed reconstruction of the complex scandal. It is filled with information about the manipulation of tenders and it offers...

Essential reading, but also horribly flawed
This book is an important and timely contribution to the maturing genre of post-Apartheid scholarship that is more comfortable breaking several taboos about the New South Africa. It stitches together an untold number of threads from various scandals, investigations, snippets and reports to produce a compelling indictment of South Africa's leaders. More importantly, it confirms the failure of South Africa's political system and structures which are the result of a failed constitutional process.

However, the book also suffers from several serious flaws that will result in limited distribution and very few readers bothering to go cover-to-cover, which is why I cannot award it more than three stars.

Firstly, the editing was disastrous. Unfortunately, we are now accustomed to South African publishers doing as little editing, fact-checking and quality control as possible. They are not so much publishers as printing and marketing intermediaries these days. Given the...
