I got this kindle version free from the author in hopes of a review and my, do I feel like the lucky one! This is a great read! I really appreciate the explanations and descriptions. The fast paced action and the many twists and turns. I found myself wondering several times if this was based on a true story, it's believable to me. I very much hope to have the pleasure of reading book #2.

Thrilling

I am a big fan of thrillers, as this is one kind of fiction that can keep me engaged, mostly when they are well written. As well, I have noticed that I particularly the first person narrations - as I believe this adds the emotional layer to the overall story. In this context, "The Apocalypse Deal" met all my expectations - using a balanced approach when it comes to thrilling adventures and mystery, the author manages to build a great and captivating storyline. A kidnapping, a continuous strive to escape any tracking and a little bit of romance for the main characters, plus all the captivating adventures they go through, everything contributes to a really captivating novel. A truly engaging reading.

The idea of mates was belittled a lot.
I’m a giant fan of the 'Purgatory' series by Cynthia Eden, in fact, it’s probably my favorite series of hers. ‘Deal With The Devil’ is the fourth book in the series but each can be read as a standalone. Overall I’ve enjoyed them all. The first, ‘The Wolf Within’, was an okay read and opened up the series (this book is free), the two that followed, ‘Marked by the Vampire’ and ‘Charming the Beast’, stole my heart. I loved every part of them. As per this one, I’m not sure where I stand, I didn’t dislike it but I also didn’t love it.

Eric Pate is the director of the PARA unit, he makes all the rules and everyone follows his orders. He doesn’t let anyone too close because he hides who he really is: something that isn’t so human after all. Then Ella Lancaster crashes into his world and Eric’s legendary control starts to crack.

Lots of Action and Scorching Hot Scenes
One of my Dirty Girls is a huge Cynthia Eden fan so when an ARC came up, I decided to give it a try. I was a bit worried about not having read the first three books in the Purgatory Series, but I caught on just fine.

I loved Ella and as her story unfolded it just tugged at my heart strings. I am a huge fan of strong heroines and alpha heroes. Ella definitely fit in the tough as nails category but I wish we had gotten to see more of her kicking rearend and taking names and less of Ella getting beaten up, grabbed, kidnapped etc etc.

Eric on the other hand didn't even make it to my like category for a good part of the story. His cause was definitely worthy, but his win at all costs attitude was kind of off-putting. He eventually grew on me and I ended up liking him overall but he's not going to make my favorite book boyfriend list.

There was plenty of action and some scorching hot scenes that made this book worthy of my time. I still really liked the...

Great Book!

This is a great book; this is the third book in the Health Nut Mystery series by Patrice Lyle. Dr. Piper, her fiancé Tattoo Tex, her eccentric aunt Alfa, and her pot belly pig Brownie are attending another health expo. When an author, Veronica Forks drops dead after eating a bag of Ken’s Killer Kale chips Piper starts putting her PI skills to work. She soon finds out that everyone hated Veronica so the suspect list is growing very fast. If you are looking for a great book, then you need to read this book. I am looking forward to reading the next book by this great author.

Killer Kale Chips

A trade show, murder(s), a Dr. who uses PI flash cards to solve murders + plus a potbellied pig who only wants to eat "Killer Kale Chips", a feisty 91 year old grandmother, A handsome Texan (the Dr.s fiance, an Elvis Impersonator who is also an (on line preacher) and a lady detective with skin issues. And a dead man who hasn't quite crossed over, that sends text messages! These are the good guys. There are many suspects. Did they arrest the wrong one? Unlike so many murder mysteries, this one is full of misadventures and lots of crazy stuff happening. but also has a happy ending. Another good book by Patrice Lyle. Great series.

Rough start but picked up and ended good.

This is the first book I've read from Patrice Lyle and being as it's the third book in the series and I'm just now hopping on the bandwagon I felt like I missed getting to know the characters and all the quarkiness that comes along with them. I had a really hard time getting into the book and getting through the first few chapters because of this. It started out as just a 2-3 star read for me and I'm glad I pushed through the beginning because it really was good and kept me guessing and offering all kinds of suspects and good old PI work at it's finest. It may not be necessary for some but I do recommend you to read the first 2 books before this so you can enjoy it even more than I did.

There are books you read in a week, there are books that you might even finish over a couple of days, and then there are those addictive little gems that you inhale all at once, reading non-stop, often in the wee hours of the morning, showing complete disregard for your real life responsibilities, and loving every blissful moment of it. Flawlessly written—as I’ve now come to expect from this terrific author after the pleasant surprise that was The Deal—this is a story that had me grinning cover to cover, and while it had the perfect combination of engaging plotline and fulfilling character development, this was first and foremost a fun, heart-warming read. One I will definitely want to re-read very...
Disappointing and frustrating after such a great start to the series

I loved loved loved The Deal. The Mistake was no The Deal. I did not get the connection between Grace and John Logan. There was no character development or progression in their relationship. I guess the grand gestures were meant to show humor and set the stage for them but there was so little detail, I just did not get it. Grace went from pretty babbling girl who was uncomfortable around cute boys to a vixen without letting the reader see the transformation. Even the sex scenes seemed to be sensationalized and not a reflection of their relationship. As in The Deal, there also was the opportunity to show the exploration and discovery of not only their emotional connection but physical as well. Nope fell flat. This added up to a juvenile read. The "fight" at the end... ridiculous and fabricated. I am harping about The Deal but it is honestly a 5 plus. This one, beginning better than the end adding up to an exaggerated 2 at best.

Not as good as the first one, but still cute, quick read.

In the first book, the heroine was the one making some questionable moves to advance the story. In this one, it's Logan, the hero.
Still has the same feel story wise--it's practically the same story with the genders switched, really. Also, IMO the dialogue wasn't QUITE as good as the first book.

Still, I liked the characters together.
Not great but not bad either and a TON of face time with the characters from book 1, which I liked.

NO CLIFFHANGER or major grammatical and word usage errors.

There is an epilogue in this one which jumps a couple of years. I'm assuming for the third book, the author will fill in the gap...?

I'll definitely read the next one to find out. Hopefully that one is more like the first.

Absolutely riveting from start to finish
I haven't read many legal thrillers in the past few years, but I think I am going to have to add more books of this genre to my future reading list - especially those written by Rebecca Forster. Hostile Witness is just a fantastic, completely absorbing read, the kind of book that makes you hate your job because having to get up early for work means having to set the novel aside in the wee hours of the morning just so you can get a few hours of sleep. Any thriller is best judged by the number of hours' sleep you miss, and Hostile Witness is right up there with the best of them.

Usually, legal thrillers have a few passages that are dry and boring or feature cardboard characters lacking any spark of life in them. Not so with Hostile Witness. Forster has given life to some vivid, remarkably human characters - the heroic, sympathetic lawyer who puts a painful past behind her to defend a young girl accused of arson and murder; the 16-year-old defendant, a troubled teen lost...
Sometimes interesting / often absurd
It helped that this book was free on Kindle when I ordered it... I had very mixed feelings about this novel. Some of the characters and narrative were done quite well, but there were a number of places where key scenes made no sense whatsoever. During a trial, for example, the main character (defense lawyer) began asking a hostile witness detailed questions about things that happened to him at specific ages ("Isn't it true that, when you were 6, such-and-such happened?"). The lawyer had just been told some vague information about the witness by someone who was unlikely to have known even the vaguest of details, yet seemed to have gleaned all this information from a brief conversation.

The book is also in dire need of a spell-checker and proofreading to correct confusing sentence structure and peculiar punctuation.

The "bad guys" (and there were several) were all unbelievable. The protagonists, however, were sympathetically drawn.

All in all, I doubt...

I like a good deal. You know how when you go to the grocery store and you find your favorite cereal is buy one get one free, you almost feel like you've won some sort of lottery. Now, you know the store has upped the base price of the cereal, but you still snatch it up and through it your cart. There is a great feel to a two for one deal. That's how I have always felt about a good courtroom drama. You're getting two dramas for the price of one. The first drama is outside the courtroom. The incident, the lives affected, secrets, conspiracies and so much more pepper the events leading up to a trial. Then the trial, the legal maneuverings, the back room deals, the attorneys and judges, you can't get much better than that.
Recently there has been more and more legal thrillers that forgo the courtroom. The lawyer turned detective who solves the mystery without even filing a motion. While these books are often quite entertaining, I sometimes feel like I missed something. In Hostile...

I stumbled across Nadia's books and have been hooked since the first one. This is the third series of hers I have started and they are all just fantastic! Can't wait for the 2nd book in this series!

I totally loved this book! Ryder needs to be loved and Paige is just as love able . I can't wait for Part 2!

Nadia Lee has done it again. Ryder and Paige belong together but their histories try to pull them apart. Loved every minute and encourage you to buy, and read this first of several related books. Be prepare for a nail biting, it's not over at "the End", ending.
