This type of item delivers exceeded own anticipation, that one has developed into a wonderfull replace on me personally, The theory came safely and swiftly Introduction to U.S. Health Policy: The Organization, Financing, and Delivery of Health Care in America

Health care reform has dominated public discourse over the past several years, and the recent passage of the Affordable Care Act, rather than quell the rhetoric, has sparked even more debate. Donald A. Barr reviews the current structure of the American health care system, describing the historical and political contexts in which it developed and the core policy issues that continue to confront us today.

This comprehensive analysis introduces the various organizations and institutions that make the U.S. health care system work―or fail to work, as the case may be. A principal message of the book is the seeming paradox of the quality of health care in this country―on the one hand it is the best medical care system in the world, on the other it is one of the worst among developed countries because of how it is organized.

Barr introduces readers to broad cultural issues surrounding health care policy, such as access, affordability, and quality. He discusses specific elements of U.S. health care, including insurance, especially Medicare and Medicaid, the shift to for-profit managed care, the pharmaceutical industry, issues of long-term care, the plight of the uninsured, medical errors, and nursing shortages. The latest edition of this widely adopted text updates the description and discussion of key sectors of America’s health care system in light of the Affordable Care Act.

Review :
The basics of understanding health care
In these days of intense debate over health care reform, this should be a non-fiction best-seller. Written as a textbook to inform medical students in the area of health policy, Dr. Barr integrates issues of culture, economics, and medicine in a highly readable overview of our current U.S. healthcare system. He illustrates a number of problems by contrasting the evolution of our healthcare system, and the strongly held political/cultural assumptions that underlie it, with the evolution and values underlying the Canadian system. He is realistic about the struggles of both systems. A number of U.S. practices and assumptions don't make for better medicine. This text goes a long way towards helping the reader understand the problems in ways that are necessary before tackling solutions. Dr. Barr offers several critical options (some implicit and others explicit) for improving U.S. health care.

Informative, well formatted, and thorough, but not to the point of boredom
As a college student looking to pursue a career in medicine, I picked this book up hoping to develop at least a fundamental knowledge about the field I will (hopefully) be working in. It answered just about every question I had beforehand, and it did so in a way that made it easy for someone with little prior knowledge to understand. I was also pleasantly surprised by the relatively unbiased opinions it provided in regards to healthcare, and any opinions that were listed were well supported with facts and figures. After having read this book, I can now effectively participate in (somewhat) sophisticated discussions regarding the U.S. healthcare system, how it works, and in what direction it is heading. A great read for anyone considering a career in healthcare, or someone just looking to gain a little knowledge on the subject.

Engaging, informative, well-written, and timely
I am a physician, former researcher, and public health officer. My primary work is public health practice and administration. I needed to get up-to-date on health care reform and I chose this book because of it's historical approach. I was not disappointed -- in fact, I was blown away how good it was! Dr. Barr is able to synthesize a complex topic. I especially like how he includes Canada's health care system as a comparison. This book is best for readers with a health background. I got the Kindle edition to save money, and it was fine. Tomás

Review :
Good Textbook
I purchased this book for my son's college course; he says the textbook is excellent with facts and includes topics that are noteworthy -- and he rec'd an "A". And at a reasonable price.

Unnecessary access code
It's in great condition... I just didn't need the access code/ CD for my class, which made this book a lot more expensive than I was hoping for.

As a novel it would be fine, not really great as a textbook.
I rented this book from Amazon for a class I'm taking. The rental is perfectly fine, if I was reviewing for that, I'd give it 4.5 stars. There is very little writing and highlighting. The only reason I'd give it 4.5 instead of 5 is that the supplemental disk isn't with it. I haven't needed it, but it would be nice to have if I wanted it.

This 3 star review is for the book itself. It's okay, but it's very badly laid out for someone who knows nothing about public health. I'm taking this class online which means I have to learn from the textbook, something this book is not conducive to doing. The key terms often don't give a solid definition, the sections often don't really go with the headings and have random sentences that would have been better placed in another section. There are a ton of footnotes, many of which should probably be an actual part of the text and the boxes/tables/figures are often unnecessary and have you flipping back and forth in the chapter...

Over 200 million Americans consume food products made of wheat every day. As a result, over 100 million experience some form of adverse health effect, ranging from minor rashes to high blood sugar to unattractive stomach bulges preventative cardiologist William Davis calls "wheat bellies." According to Davis, that excess fat has nothing to do with gluttony, sloth, or too much butter: it's due to the whole grain wraps we eat for lunch.

After witnessing over 2,000 patients regain health after giving up wheat, Davis reached the disturbing conclusion that wheat is the single largest contributor to the nationwide obesity epidemic―and that elimination of wheat is key to dramatic weight loss and optimal health. In national bestseller, Dr. Davis exposes the harmful effects of what is actually a product of genetic tinkering and agribusiness being sold to the American public as "wheat"―and provides readers with a user-friendly, step-by-step plan to navigate a new wheat-free lifestyle.

Informed by cutting-edge science and nutrition, along with case studies from men and women who have experienced life-changing transformations in health after waving goodbye to wheat, Wheat Belly is an illuminating look at what is truly making Americans sick and an action plan to clear our plates of this seemingly benign ingredient.

Review :
Truly a health revolution
I read the original Wheat Belly because my doctor was threatening me with a statin (low HDL, high triglycerides). I read through the book and his blog ( wheatbellyblog.com ) and found it hard to believe that wheat was my problem. So much so that it took me 4 months before I committed to a wheat free life.

6 weeks later I had my first wheat free blood draw. ALL markers (including triglycerides and HDL) were in normal range. I was stunned. After decades and different medications (none that worked) and here eliminating wheat was the answer? This was 19 months ago. I have since lost a lot of weight (100 lbs) and 14" off my waist. Nice side effect.

Total Health does build upon the original book and expands to grain free living with lots of the science and . I got a blood glucose meter about a year ago and came to the same realization myself. Rice kicked me to 160 even just the amount in one sushi. Corn takes me to about 110. I try to keep my levels...
Grain Free, instead of Prescription Filled, Living
This book is the perfect companion to Wheat Belly and is the logical next step for anyone choosing to take charge of their health through nutrition. If you have an autoimmune disease, diabetes, chronic headaches, inflammation, thyroid disorder, mood swings, low energy, low libido or a shocking array of other health disruptions, you must read this book. Three years ago, Dr. Davis put forward the bold idea that wheat (and all seeds of grasses) was the root of our health troubles and with Wheat Belly Total Health, he explains the steps needed to heal ourselves of the disease we've developed through decades of misguided health advice including the dangerous low-fat and healthy whole grain food pyramid. Highly recommended!

How Do You Follow Up A Classic Health Book? Write Another One!
By this point, I'd find it hard to believe that there's anyone who hasn't at least heard of Milwaukee, WI-based cardiologist Dr. William Davis' runaway New York Times bestselling book released in 2011 called Wheat Belly: Lose the Wheat, Lose the Weight, and Find Your Path Back to Health. That singular book has played such an instrumental role in combating the message we continually hear from so-called health experts about the need to consume more "healthy whole grains" in our diet and people are waking up to the truth about how grains are destroying their health. Even those who aren't as deeply ingrained (all pun intended!) in the health community are aware of the powerful message Dr. Davis shared about in that book that is still having a major impact and touching the lives of countless numbers of people with more than a million copies of that instant classic in print and counting. But now he's back with even more...
