Review :
Highly Recommend
This is absolutely the best book ever written for the mobile home investor. Not just for the beginner, Deals on Wheels provides the experienced investor with a business model from which he/she can develop real wealth.

Unlike conventional real estate investing, mobile homes are not typically subject to wide market fluctuations. Instead, they continue cranking out CA$H every month. Even with prices crashing in most markets, investing in a single family home is pricey. Contrast this with buying a used mobile home for $1500-3500 full price (though I've paid as little as $500 in recent years). Whether you choose to flip, rent or sell on terms, at those prices even a beginner would have to work really hard to lose money.

The author, Lonnie Scruggs, is THE authoring on mobile home investing, & his reputation is well deserved. I have read all of his books & heard him speak several times. This book should be your first mobile home investment, & if you follow the...
Down to earth advice on MH investing
This is a great book with a lot of value in it. Lonnie is such an expert that the term "Lonnie deal" is named after him. A Lonnie deal is fixing up an older mobile home and selling it, usually on a note to get that "mailbox money". I highly recommend this book. After reading it, go to Lonnie's website and sign up for his free newsletter. As a bonus when you get the newsletter, you'll get some free audios. Lonnie breaks it all down for you.

Written by someone who has done it and is an expert on it
The mobile home section of the real estate world is a specialized niche that might be a good area for you to get started in if you are nervous about getting your feet wet in real estate investing.

The really big money is in commercial real estate such as big apartment buildings but if you are nervous about risking your money, mobile homes or trailers as they are often called don't take a lot of cash to get started with.
In this book the author will provide you with tips on how to get a low price if you are buying in order to resell.

He also provides advice on who you might want to sell to so you avoid problems.
Advice on newspaper ads is also in the book.

But probably one of the most important sections is how to become friends with trailer park managers. They have all sorts of inside information that can be beneficial to you.

Only someone who has been in this particular area of real estate can provide the specialized knowledge...

Review :
It pretty much has crosswords and matching
Chapters are small and topics are simple. The book is realy for people who are going to have little to do with the financial end of running a practice. It provides a general overview so a manager can have general idea of what's going in that department. The accompanying dvd does little to enhance understanding. It pretty much has crosswords and matching.

This is great for a person with no finance background
Needed this book for a class. It gave basic concepts, but didn't go into mych detail. This is great for a person with no finance background. I found it to be very vague with explanations.

Poorly written and unhelpful
This book consists mainly of definitions with very little explanatory prose. As such, it is not very useful for didactic purposes and would only be of questionable value as a reference book.

Most chapters are a few pages long and are accompanied with extensive, needlessly wordy introductions. For example, a subheading may say "Distinctions Among Fixed, Variable, and Semivariable Costs". The next paragraph reads, "This chapter emphasizes the distinctions among fixed, variable, and semivariable costs because this knowledge is a basic working tool in financial management. The manager needs to know the difference between fixed and variable costs to compute contribution margins and break-even points. The manager also needs to know about semivariable costs to make good decisions about how to treat these costs." As you can see, this text is not really explanatory and simply repeats over and over again the importance of the material it purports to teach.

Explanatory...

Review :
The Authoritative Guide to Venture Capital in Silicon Valley
I've been in Silicon Valley for twenty years; I've worked at several dozen startups; I'm now with a venture funding group from China. Mahendra Ramsinghani's book is far away the most authoritative overview of how venture capital works. He uncovers how VCs get their money from investors (LPs) and their motivations and goals. This matters because it determines the framework within which the VCs work.

The book also describes the interplay among partners within VC firms (the GPs) and how that affects authority, decision-making, and selection of funding. As with LPs, he also describes motivations and goals of the VCs.

If you're building a startup, you must understand these issues. Decisions by others will affect your startup. The extensive information is invaluable.

I've been discussing information in this book with friends who run startups; they didn't know many of these things.

If you're building startups, seeking funding, or work in venture...
... was one of the rare books that I was happy I encountered while in school
This was required reading for our venture capital law class and it was one of the rare books that I was happy I encountered while in school. I have it highlighted and even referenced it after I started practicing law. The book was very well written and structured. I would recommend it highly for lawyers or non-lawyers alike, though probably even more for non-lawyers (though it has plenty of great tips and insights for anyone practicing venture capital law or interested in the investment side of venture capital).

Invest the time into this book!
This book is chock full of nuggets about the true inner workings of VC. Mahendra uses dozens of real life stories to illustrate that this business is not really about the money, but about the people. He captures how the intangibles really matter in this (and most every other) business. For an entrepreneur, getting funded is simply not about forwarding a business plan or a slide deck and waiting for a check. There is a delicate kabuki dance involved with layer after layer of subtlety. And understanding the unwritten rules can be the difference between a Term Sheet and a "Keep us updated on your progress" response.

From a VC perspective, this is a real "How To" book. For folks aspiring to become VCs, there is plenty on meat here. Even for seasoned VCs, plenty of thoughts as to what could be considered best practices. Worth every minute.

Mahendra takes a very complex and veiled subject and makes it less mysterious and approachable. A must reac!

Fantastic! Most practical, Do-able bussiness opportunity.
Lonnie Scruggs writes about purchasing and re-selling mobile homes. Its an easy read, the steps are outlined 1 by 1 for you. Everything from what to look for to repairs to ads to what to say to how to sell to sample paperwork.

You don't have to be a superstar seller, you don't have to be a financial wiz to understand these simple, effective techniques. As Lonnie says, don't overanalyze! Just follow his steps and you'll be on your way.

I can't give him enough kudos. You WILL succeed with this book.

perfect checklist for dealing mobiles
The author is not an English major (or even a minor) but he has produced a perfect checklist to deal in mobile homes. His later editions have become money making with even a video (probably copying all those out there who can't make money so they give high priced workshops) This original work, though conversational, has everything one needs to know to actually start a mobile home renting or buying business...it is a great started blueprint...save your money with fancy seminars...use this book as a mentor and get started....
