Research shows that building muscle helps the body burn more calories 24/7 and that resistance training is the most effective way to torch body fat. Yet that message is still lost on many women who fear that weight lifting will make them bulky, turn their skin green, and give them Incredible Hulk muscles like their boyfriends'. Women have more options than step aerobics or running on a treadmill to shed pounds: They can weight-train in a very specific manner designed to make the most of a woman's unique physiology.

Lift to Get Lean is the first beginner's guide to strength training from Women's Health that is written specifically for women by a woman. Holly Perkins is a certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS) who has been teaching the fat-burning secrets of weight training exclusively to women for more than 20 years. Perkins doesn't follow men's rules when it comes to building muscle. Her Lift to Get Lean delivers a three-step system: Technique, Movement Speed, and the Last 2 Reps Rule, which make all the difference in developing the kind of strong, lean, and sexy body women want. Perkins offers four different 90-day training programs that efficiently build functional strength along with leaner legs, stronger arms, and a sexier butt.

Highly Recommended for Women with gym Access & Consistency--Long, Thorough Review!
The first aspect of the book that I liked is that the introduction covers how strength training is different for women, which is exactly why I was looking for a female author on the topic. At the beginning of “Part I: The Foundation,” her journey into fitness, and how she optimized a strength training routine is covered. In “The Secret to Getting Lean for Life,” she covers deeper motivation to stay on track. In “A New System Designed Precisely for Women” she answered my major question, which was: “Do I need a gym membership in order to do the program(s) in this book? The answer: yes! Her reasoning is that you need progressive resistance and specific equipment i.e. a leg curl machine. This program cannot be easily modified for a few sets of weights. “Why Strength Training Matters to Your Health” she cites studies that show how gaining muscle mass is beneficial to your overall health like having a higher metabolic rate, increases in...

Before you buy this book, know this: it requires a gym membership. Great advice and workouts!

An Amazing Workout Plan For Women
I have started this plan and was super sore after my first workout, and I do strength training on a regular basis as it is! So far I think this is an amazing plan. I love the way she really customizes everything for the woman's body. Trust me, she doesn't dumb it down for women, instead she customizes it for our bodies which are different from men's.
The reasons I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that it would be nice to be able to submit questions to Holly regarding the plan. For instance, my gym doesn't have the prone position leg curl machine, just the seated leg curl machine, so it would be nice to be able to ask if there would be any modifications for that machine. Also, There are a couple of exercises where I question where she placed the "pause," after the "easy" instead of after the "hard." I tried to access the videos at both Holly's website and the Women's Health website and couldn't find them. Otherwise, I think this is an amazing plan and...

A profusely illustrated, popularly-written volume with original comic art, FDR and the New Deal For Beginners will shed new light upon a story now regaining visibility thanks to the recent economic crisis and prominent reformer, President Obama, in the White House.

The history of the precedent-making FDR administration through the bitter economic depression, with expansive programs empowering artists and working people, comes alive as the grandest social experiment in the history of American democracy. For the first time, the lives of the president, the first lady and the ordinary people of the time will be seen through an inventive comic narrative accompanying historic illustrations and a sympathetic but not uncritical text.

Review :
A fun and informative read!
"FDR and the New Deal For Beginners" is a welcome and refreshing addition to the impressive list of graphic histories that the U.S. people's historian Paul Buhle, working alongside talented artists (in this case, Sabrina Jones), has offered to readers, young and old. It is rare to come across such a fun, informative, yet nuanced read of anything in history, but Buhle and Jones accomplish this nicely in their beginner's guide to FDR and the New Deal. Although FDR, along with Eleanor Roosevelt, are necessarily at the center of the narrative, it isn't just a biography of FDR, but, rather, it serves as a dynamic social biography of the period. From "FDR and the New Deal For Beginners," you'll find all the `pretty' and `ugly' things that accompany this period. For example, through Buhle's storyline and Jones's wonderful artwork, you'll learn about how Eleanor Roosevelt was the first resident of the White House to protest against racism when she resigned her membership from the Daughters of...
FDR Speaks to Today's Struggles Through the Clouds of the Past
Book Review by John Pietaro
FDR AND THE NEW DEAL FOR BEGINNERS by Paul Buhle and Sabrina Jones Afterword by Harvey Pekar
2010, For Beginners Books

In the throes of this Great Recession, during the presidential campaign of a promising, well-spoken candidate with a political repertoire deeply affected by community service, celebrated historian Paul Buhle was struck by inspiration. Buhle, after writing and/or editing a wealth of texts turned his attention to progressive comic-art histories several years ago; he sees this trend as a powerful means to reach the youth of this time--an extension of the Left's cultural institutions of days past, particularly those led by activist-artists of the 1930s. So how could he pass up the opportunity to reintroduce yesterday's fight-back now?

Authoring the latest release of the "For Beginners" series, Buhle's collaboration with underground comic artist Sabrina Jones brings the New Deal's politics and radicalism to life...
We should never have entered WW2 and FDR just like Wilson lied when he said he would not send ...
For the most part it was very informative yet it did not say FDR planned getting into WW2 with Churchill. Pearl harbor was a false flag operation. We should never have entered WW2 and FDR just like Wilson lied when he said he would not send our men to war.
